Travel photo challenge: White

September 21 is The International Day of Peace.  Aisla the author of the blog Where’s My Backpack, has made white, the colour of peace, her theme for this week’s travel photo challenge.  .

Here’s my response.

On a visit to Bruges, Belgium in April 2011 I went to a exhibition of Picasso prints.  One of the images exhibited was his famous Dove of Peace.

Peace, and the desire for peace is so often in our prayers.  At Mary’s House at Ephesus in Turkey people write prayers on white tissue and tie them to the prayer wall.  Just the sight of so many white prayers is peaceful.

There is a peaceful purity to the colour white. One of the most peaceful days I’ve ever had while travelling was spent wandering round the white marble ruins at Aphrodisias, Turkey.

The way this white swan glided along the River Lee in Cork city, Ireland was so soothing.  Even looking at the photo fills me with peace

while a white candle in a window at Cork University symbolises, to me, the hope that our world will find lasting and universal  peace.

  1. I’m filled with peace just reading this, Suzanne. Thanks for following. Isn’t Aphrodisias a great place name? There are so many temple ruins in Turkey, it’s unbelievable.

  2. Beautiful white images. Welcome! Thank you for subscribing to follow my blog. I hope you are encouraged, inspired and enjoy the photos I take of life events as seen through the lens of my camera.

Please comment. I love knowing what you think.
